EU matters

(The Guardian, Saturday June 17, 2006)

“Turkey declared on Friday it was prepared to abandon EU membership negotiation talks rather than open its ports and airports to Cyprus.”

There are two sides to this problem; one simple one that none of the European Union countries feels conformable with the idea of Turkey joining the EU, second side is Turkey’s problem with Greece over Cyprus.

Let’s take European un-ease about Turkey’s membership, it is not that only that Turkey is Muslim country, but there is big cultural difference. In most of the Muslim countries, democracy, woman’s rights and Human Rights are is in short supply. Culturally and religiously Western style democracy is not suited to Islamic values. It is equally wrong to impose Western yardstick to measure a culture that is very different to Western one.

This missionary zeal to impose Western style democracy of Bush-Blair is another way of imposing Western dominance that was once a mission of Christianity. Why can’t we leave whole of Muslim world develop its own version of governance. Islamic world has produced some brilliant philosophers and thinkers. Once the West stops imposing its own agenda on the Islamic world, the pressure to change will be off and Islamic word will start the process of change at its own pace.

Now question of Turkey’s membership of the EU, who is really pushing its not the Turkish government or Turkish people, but it is the US agenda using Blair as its proxy.

Basically, US do not like EU and all its aspects, from Euro to European Defense force. US do not want to appose it directly, as it needs European support/ cooperation to deal with many issues globally. At the same time it doesn’t like to see EU coming up as an equal force to the US or Euro as an international trading currency.

The biggest fear US has got is the success of Euro that can one day become the trading currency for oil and other commodities. The day it happens, the US will be bankrupt overnight.

US is the only country in the world that has printed more currency that is can pay back. US budget running into trillions of dollars, the whole system is running on borrowed money. All the billions being poured into Iraq war, where is the money coming from? US just simply is borrowing it.

On top of it If tomorrow all the petro-money is moved away from US dollars to Euro, US simply do not have the money to pay it back. Saudis own nearly 7% of US economy. Imagine if tomorrow, Saudis decide to move its assets from US to Europe, it would leave a big gap in US economy that is would not ab able sustain it.

This is biggest fear US has and no body is talking about it. In the UK media, only few weeks ago John Pilger dared to mention it in his article in the New Statesman. He pointed out that it was not Sadam Hussain had the WMD, but it started to sell oil in Euros. Now it is the Iranian doing it and US is finding all the reasons to call is biggest threat to world peace.

It is not the nuclear program that worries the US, but the trend Iran is setting to sell oil in Euros.

Now Bush-Blain agenda to push Turkey’s membership to the EU is one way derailing the EU and Euro program.

US is kind of friend, if it can’t or doesn’t want to fight on the ground, it will try to drill a hole in your pot, so that all your contents in the pot are drained away. It is using Britain to do it in the case of pushing Turkey’s membership to derail the EU train.

Turkey’s issue with Greece is also based upon the US policy toward Greece, first
US was behind the military coupe in 1967, when democratically elected government of George Papandreou’s was toppled. When Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, Britain had military base on the island, but did not care to help, because it is US that inspired the invasion.

It is time for Turkey to wake and not let the US to allow it to be used as a pawn its game of global dominance.
