An open letter to my Jewish friends
Saturday, January 17 2009 @ 11:50 PM GMT Contributed by:avtarjeet Views:: 266

Outsider SaysI am writing this letter because I have so many Jewish friends, those are wonderfully humane people as are most of my Muslim friends and others. As you all know that I am Sikh from India, where after sixty years, my family still talks about the over a million people massacred on both sides, Sikhs and Muslims during the partition of the Panjab. There has been several wars between India and Pakistan, those all fought on Panjabi soil. On the other hand, Sikhs have no neighborly dispute with Israel.

If I was the kind of person who would hold any grudges, I have more reason to be anti-Muslims than anti-Jews. So I am writing this letter as sensitive human being and as an artist who against any violence, when in the 21st century we have so many means of communication, any two parties should be talking to each other, in stead of fighting.

What we have witnessed over the last three weeks in Gaza, all my friends have been silent except one from the US. I wonder why my Jewish friends are silent, when directly or indirectly they must be feeling partly responsible for the carnage going on in their name.

I can’t understand how you could support such a Government in Israel, or keep quiet about its actions over last three weeks?

It’s an irony that a Jewish Government is using the same tools those were used against Jews by the Nazis in Europe not long ago. Have the Jews forgotten what it feels like when a whole population including women and children are being exterminated in the name of self defense or security?

I would like to ask my Jewish friends, how could they sleep in their comfortable beds, when their army is shelling civilians of Gaza day and night? When Israeli fighter jets are bombing the home of innocent people, the people who have no tools/arms to defend themselves and no place to run.

When the Israeli government has locked all exit points from a small strip of land, and then tells them by dropping leaflets from the air to run away. Question is where they could run when you have subjected them to concentration camps and have locked all the exit points. Imagine when your people were put into concentration camps by the Nazis, then, even if Nazis had told you run away otherwise every one in the camp would be sent to gas chambers. Would it had justified Nazi actions?

<b>"What the Nazis for the Jews - What the Israel created for the Palestinians in Gaza, both are called CONCENTRATION CAMPS." Nic Irvine </b>

My Jewish friends, I am trying my best to stand back from the immediate atrocities those have been committed and still being committed, I am trying to find a reason a justification for such callous behavior of a Jewish Government in Israel. Why a government representative of such humane people individually, has been acting for the last six decades, since the creation of the Jewish homeland.

I think you have been tricked twice. First the world stood by when Hitler was exterminating you in Europe. After which the West collectively felt guilty and to express its sympathy gave you country of Israel, in Palestine where you had left centuries ago. In this scheme of politics, Palestinian people with whom you could have lived together like brothers, those were historically your closest relatives.

I am now thinking the unthinkable; history tells us that you were almost commanded by your well-wisher the West and by your misguided leaders such as David Ben-Gurion to throw the Palestinian population out of the home they have lived for centuries. (See the appendix).

You may not realize it but it is true, when a whole community had suffered a dehumanizing experience, as you suffered under Hitler, your suffering killed a part of the humanity within each of you, you become revengeful and ruthless.

Please read carefully this important point, this was a very delicate moment in your history; with little self reflection and timely support from your well-wishers you could have become a protective force all the weak and the oppressed of the world. That would have been considered your real victory. You would have created an everlasting light for humanity.

Now what you have got, last six decades of war and you have created your enemies who would remember these events for a long time, as you remember how your ancestors were thrown out of your land Israel around two thousand years ago.

This matter doesn’t end here, but your supporter had something else in their mind when they created Israel in 1848. They wanted you to do something that their crusaders could not achieve over centuries; to create an outpost for their interests to be used to dominate the Middle East and act as bull-bar to keep the Islam held back.

The West did not do a favour to you by helping you establish your homeland Israel, its designs were more sinister that you could never imagined.

I am writing this since I have more dear friends those are Jews than my own sympathies for the Palestinians or for the Muslims as such. I must also add what the whole world knows, that Muslim people as a whole have so many shortcomings that I would not offer them any advice, especially not in this letter. I may write a separate letter to my Muslim friends.

I don’t particularly need remind the world, what it knows already that most of the Arab countries, are suffering from the ‘Curse of the Oil’. The easy money they have earned made them absolutely corrupt, not only in material terms, but morally and spiritually too. That is worse than material corruption.

Other part of the Muslim world, those do not have the oil, are suffering from a much deeper problem. I would rather say that all three Abrahamic religions have a historical fault line running very deep running through their foundation. It is their history; told in the Holy books, is full of violence. They have been handed down a curse, disguised as blessing, of telling you that you are the chosen people of the God, and anyone who is not one of you, has no right to be an equal human. It is such a curse very very difficult to get over without total assessment of the history that made them what they are today.

The Christianity, one of the three religions of the Book, suffered from this curse too, I call it genetic disease, over a millennia and a half, but has reassessed its position and has nearly come out of it. They do not to congratulate itself, at least not yet, as this curse is still very much alive in American Christianity.

Second attribute that makes the West feel superior to everyone else in the world; its the most cherished flagship of the West the very idea of ‘Democracy’ that has its own faults. It could make a man like George Bush a president of a most powerful country of the world without winning a majority vote. That is what made possible for an absolute phony Tony Blair to bluff his way through for over ten years.

Over the last three weeks, during the press conference in Tel Aviv, one can see so clearly the ambition of Tzipi Livni to win the next Israeli election, making her the most heartless woman in the world. If it was not her ambition to be the next Prime Minister, how could a woman be the instrument of killing of other women and children?

My friends to remain silent is considered as endorsement of what has be put through in Gaza during last three weeks.

Let’s say that you keep silent and allow Israeli government gets away with this genocide, as it has done so with the help of the US over the last six decades, while the world looked away. But remember life never forgives any wrong doings; It will be your collective soul that will punish you from within. Each Israeli citizen and their supporters would suffer from a deep guilt for centuries to come.

When Israeli Government has chided even with the UN and people of the world, it believes that until US is on its side no one can harm it. It’s a very short-sighted thinking.
Imagine, within next twenty or let’s say fifty years, the centre of power shifts away from the US, as it had done so throughout history. Suppose one day the US power that has been built upon exploitation of the world resources and aggression against anyone who stood on its way to achieve its goals, collapses as did the many other empire in the world. Please give a moment’s thought, who would come to help you since you have treated every one else in the world with total contempt?

My friends, the day will come, when support of the US in Security Council would not be able save your country. I am pretty sure that many countries in the world are already thinking of changing the structure of the Security Council, where one country such as the US could continuously protect Israel, for its continuous callous acts against its neighbours.

My Israeli friends, lets say that change of power structure in the world is nothing more than my wishful thinking. Lets’ say US stay as a world power for eternity; the life it self will not forgive you.

You know it very well that when a human being treats other human being with cruelty, no doubt the victim suffers physically, but the perpetrators of cruelty suffer too on a much deeper level. Some part of the perpetrator also dies, leaving behind only a body that starts to decay very soon.

You have heard the stories of individual American servicemen who suffer from inner pain just by thinking what they did to the innocent Iraqis or others during their duty abroad. The soul of the whole Israeli nation and its supporters would suffer from this dehumanizing curse from within.

I hope you would do something today to record your disapproval what the Israeli Government is doing to the women and children in Gaza. If you believe that Israel is a democracy, then you all have the power to make the Israeli Government to re-think/re-evaluate its strategy for survival through peace not through violence.

I quote here the words of Dr. Dahlia Wasfi, “When there is no justice, there is no peace”.

Dr. Dahlia Wasfi, Born in New York (1971) to a Jewish-American mother, and an Muslim-Iraqi father, read more at these links:

John Pilger writes:

They know that the horror now raining on Gaza has little to do with Hamas or, absurdly, “Israel’s right to exist”. They know the opposite to be true: that Palestine’s right to exist was cancelled 61 years ago and the expulsion and, if necessary, extinction of the indigenous people was planned and executed by the founders of Israel. They know, for example, that the infamous “Plan D” resulted in the murderous de-population of 369 Palestinian towns and villages by the Haganah (Jewish army) and that massacre upon massacre of Palestinian civilians in such places as Deir Yassin, al-Dawayima, Eilaboun, Jish, Ramle and Lydda are referred to in official records as “ethnic cleansing”. Arriving at a scene of this carnage, David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, was asked by a general, Yigal Allon, “What shall we do with the Arabs?” Ben-Gurion, reported the Israeli historian Benny Morris, “made a dismissive, energetic gesture with his hand and said, ‘Expel them’. The order to expel an entire population “without attention to age” was signed by Yitzhak Rabin, a future prime minister promoted by the world’s most efficient propaganda as a peacemaker. The terrible irony of this was addressed only in passing, such as when the Mapan Party co-leader Meir Ya’ari noted “how easily” Israel’s leaders spoke of how it was “possible and permissible to take women, children and old men and to fill the roads with them because such is the imperative of strategy … who remembers who used this means against our people during the [Second World] war... we are appalled.”

Every subsequent “war” Israel has waged has had the same objective

In Gaza, the enforced starvation and denial of humanitarian aid, the piracy of life-giving resources such as fuel and water, the denial of medicines and treatment, the systematic destruction of infrastructure and the killing and maiming of the civilian population, 50 per cent of whom are children, meet the international standard of the Genocide Convention.
Richard Falk, the United Nations Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and international law authority at Princeton University, agrees the similarity of what Israel is doing in Gaza with the Nazi concentration camps.

Dr. Dahlia Wasfi is an American writer on Palestine. She has a Jewish mother and an Iraqi Muslim father. “Holocaust denial is anti-Semitic,” she wrote on 31 December. “But I’m not talking about World War Two, Mahmoud Ahmedinijad (the president of Iran) or Ashkenazi Jews. What I’m referring to is the holocaust we are all witnessing and responsible for in Gaza today and in Palestine over the past 60 years... Since Arabs are Semites, US-Israeli policy doesn’t get more anti-Semitic than this.” She quoted Rachel Corrie, the young American who went to Palestine to defend Palestinians and was crushed by an Israeli bulldozer. “I am in the midst of a genocide,” wrote Corrie, “which I am also indirectly supporting and for which my government is largely responsible.”
